Supplier Q&A featuring Your Big Event

Can you give me some more information about your business (where you are based, exactly what you do and how long you have been doing it?)
Your Big Event is a Devon based DJ company, specialising in the wedding and corporate sector, run by Andy Harris, one of the most experienced wedding DJ’s in the South West with over 25 years experience. We can offer the presentation ad style you want for your wedding day.

What do you enjoy about working in the wedding industry and why?
The absolute best part of the day is seeing everyone enjoying themselves, but I also like the more mundane parts of running a business, the paperwork etc. The initial telephone call and free consultations to meet up and get people ideas into practice is also one of the best parts of my job.

What do you think makes a wedding stand out?
The little things, small touches, taking time to listen to the professionals you have entrusted your event too, and not overpowering everything.

What do you feel a bride should be asking a supplier when booking?
The obvious, references, recommendations, which is why we always meet clients before they book us, so we can discuss the finer details, and they can get to know me. Ask them which venues recommend their services etc.

When you have a wedding booking, how do you get yourself ready and prepare for it?
As we are a full time professional DJ company once we have confirmed a celebration we then start planning your day, your music is sourced, and made sure it sounds OK, and is the correct version of the music required.
We liaise with other suppliers, entertainment, the venue, and of course we liaise with the bride and groom to make sure everything runs as smooth as you want it to run.

Do you have any pre-wedding, on the day or post-wedding tips that you would like to share?
Before the day listen to the experiences of other, including suppliers, we have all heard stories of people that thought they knew best only to be told after the event that our ideas were good ideas. On the day, do with the flow, forget about timings, and it everything is running later than planned, don’t worry, most weddings do !

Can you tell us one of your best wedding moments?
The best moment happens at most functions we do, and it is when people come up to you at the end of the day and thank you.

Have you noticed any innovative or unique ideas at a wedding recently?
Only ideas we have thought of and I’m not letting you know them !

What piece of advice would you give a bride (or groom) prior to their day?
As stated above, go with the flow on the day, forget about timings, let the professionals do that.

What do you think the next wedding trend will be?
Midnight and over night wedding parties, starting at 2200hrs onwards,m and finishing in the early hours.
